Tetrarchs
Tetrarchs

Diocletian instigated the Tetrarchy, four co-equal emerors who keep twenty years of peace throughout the Roman empire.

This piece is a set of painted panels made during my residency in Split, each showing a different tetrarch; left to rght, the gallery cat echoes the Tetrarch statue at St Mark’s. The most famous statue is set into a corner of St Mark’s cathedral in Venice, shown in the third panel. Fourth panel shows a sketch in the style of Edward Lear.

I am interested in making utterly irrelevant subjects the focus of my work, people that no-one but me has any reason to be interested in. This is what attracted me to art as a child
